For more than 10 years, Fight Night has been one of EA Sports most successful fighting games. Developed by EA Canada and published under the EA Sports label , "Fighter Night" has evolved from a 2D fighter with its roots in Neo Geo's MMA fighting game to a 3D fighter on many consoles since 2006. Despite passage of time, Fight Night is still one of the best fighters to play for those who are looking for an adrenaline-pumping fight, as well as for those who are interested in how it came into being. Fight Nights history has seen its fair share of ups and downs over the years. Developed and released as a joint effort between EA Canada and 1st Playable Productions, the game was an ambitious title for its time. When Fight Night was released in North America on September 12, 1999 to mixed reviews, many felt that the game was only an average fighter. Several years later, 1st Playable Productions officially withdrew from the project due to lack of support from 1st Playable's head of development, Ed Fries. In 2001, EA Canada began development of "Fighter Night 2" to improve on almost every aspect of the first "Fighter Night". The results were much better than its predecessor. The game added more characters, better graphics, and a more accurately modeled gameplay system. Eventually it became one of the best-selling boxing games of all time, with over two million units sold worldwide. Despite the success of "Fighter Night 2", several more years passed and there was no word on a third installment in the series. Four years after "Fighter Night 2" was released, EA Sports officially announced that they were planning on releasing "Fight Night 2004". The delay was due to EA Sports wanting to take full advantage of its newly acquired development facilities as well as maximize the visual appeal of its upcoming video game. EA Sports' main objective for "Fight Night 2004" was to increase the number of gameplay modes and attract new gamers who typically would not play boxing because of the perceived difficulty of it. The game was represented with higher graphical detail than its predecessors, with increased texture resolution and more realistic character models. With the unexpected success of Fight Night Round 3 (FNR3), EA Sports confirmed that they would be releasing FNR4 in late 2006 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, Xbox, PC, Nintendo Wii. The release date was set in September 2006 upon being pushed back from July 26. The PC version was set for release on October 31, 2006. In July 2007, EA Sports announced that "Fighter Night Round 4" would arrive in the summer of 2008. In a bid to make this possible, EA Sports brought back 1st Playable Productions to work on the title. Their task was to take the existing Fight Night engine and convert it for DVD-ROM (the new high-capacity format). The game was released at midnight on August 13th, 2008 with an extended time frame of one year after its initial release date. The game will be released for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii and PC. Fight Night Round 4 is set in New York City. cfa1e77820
